IPAC -The Inter-Party Advisory Council, the prestigious Association of the National Chairmen of Political Partes of the Nigerian Federation slams the Senate Bill to make Compulsory the debate for Presidential and Governorship race during elections saying that it would be unconstitutional to infringe on the fundamental human rights of choice and freedom of the candidates, so it should be optional. This was made known to the Media Executives by the National Director of Policy and Planning of IPAC, HE Prince Frank Ukonga.
Furthermore, IPAC kicked against the idea of giving INEC-The Independent National Electoral Commission the right to conduct such debates as INEC is a Federal Institution and may likely be partisan which would be counterproductive to the essence of the free, fair and credible polls mandate expected of the commission.
Lastly, IPAC demands that INEC be unbundled into three Commissions of 1] Federal Electoral Commission FEC with the responsibility of conducting elections only; 2] The Political Parties Registration and Regulatory Commission, to be charged with the responsibility of registering and monitoring the activities of Political parties nationally and 3] The Electoral Offense Commission.
